Why is my SNMP Walk failing with the error "snmpwalk_failed"?
The SNMP Walk log is showing:
SNMP Problems:
snmpwalk_failed 10.2.20.100
-- help --
no match : No sysDescr match. Update sysDescr Rules to include the device
exclude (rule) : SNMP response was good but the device type is excluded by match "rule" (See SysDescr Rules)
duplicate_device : Devices has the same ip address table as another device. Declared duplicate
duplicate_engineid : Devices has the same sysName + snmpEngineID as another device. Declared duplicate
virtual_router : Virtual Router IP not added.
snmpget_failed : There was no SNMP response from the device
snmpwalk_failed : The device responded to SNMP but it was invalid
Possibly fixed by lowering max_repetitions (See SNMP Config -> Per IP Address Tunables)
snmpwalk_abort : The SNMP walk aborted with a fatal error
This error indicates issues with the device's response to SNMP requests.
As noted the recommendation is to "wind back" the amount of requests to the device using some tunable parameters as most likely the requests are too hard on the device and it is unable to respond to Statseeker in the time allowed.
- Go to the "Discover My Network" page in the "Network Discovery" section of the Admin Tool GUI.
- Click the "Customize And Run" button on the "Rewalk" panel"
- Select the device by using the "Select specific devices" drop-down option in the "DEVICES SOURCE" box and then searching for the device and ensuring only it is selected.
- Then expand the options by clicking the "Show Advanced Options" button.
- Expand the SNMP Options by clicking on the bar.
- Change the "Max Simultaneous Device Walks" to 1 and the "Max Repetitions" to 10.
- Leave the panel expanded and run the discovery by clicking the "Start Discovery" button at the bottom.
If that does not work repeat the procedure using the "Minimal Walk" slider.
